Mobile Business I - Technology, Markets, Platforms, and Business Models

» Hide Content, Outline, Literature «
Content of the Course: This includes an historic overview across the development of mobile communication infrastructures, services, and protocols. Based on this, students will be qualified to identify possibilities and limitations of mobile business applications and business models, in order to consider the resulting opportunities and challenges when deriving the success factors. Characteristic attributes of mobile services, especially in contrast to electronic services, will be outlined and considered in an analysis of the current market environment for mobile business applications. Furthermore, traditional as well as emerging business models will be discussed. The course concludes with a presentation and discussion of several exemplary application scenarios. Students will be able to reflect on specific attributes of mobile applications, to analyse new scenarios, and to draw connections to traditional and established scenarios.

Practical Exercise
Michael Pachmajer (Accenture)

The Practical Exercises deal with the current development of the telecommunication market and the challenges for Telcos. The offered product portfolio of mobile telecom providers and applied technologies are object of a case study, conducted in team work. The case study is viewed from the perspective of the executive board of a mobile telecommunication provider. The developed measures for the company will be presented in an Investor Call. The participation in the case study is not mandatory. For those students who participate in the case study and achieve a higher grade in the case study than in the written exam, the written exam will count 80% and the mark of the case study presentation 20%. For those students who choose not to participate (and for those students whose written exam result is better than the case study result) the written exam will count 100%.
